July 9, 2012
TV schedules have helped me think of the year in “seasons”. I raced off to do the last job of the season, preaching at our church’s national assembly on July 5, confirming to myself once again that formulating a sermon is as much work as creating a TV episode. But what caught me by surprise was how deeply my faith in God was fed and refreshed by spending the last week of the season with my church family, Canada’s Christian and Missionary Alliance. If you’d like a taste of that, listen to the sermon links from Assembly, especially the one on Hebrews 4 by Dr. Gordon Smith. If you need some renewal in your faith in God, here’s a link to help you find a church in our alliance. Spending this week with hundreds of their pastors across Canada reminded me that these churches are really a great gift of God’s love in our lives.
The season also brings to a close a few important farewells to three very valued team members: Pearl Sluman, our Controller who managed all our ministry finances these past five years has resigned to pursue new things for God; Sannah Choi, our gifted Episode Producer leaves us to join CBC Toronto; and Marta Atkinson, our full-time volunteer who kept so many services in production running well, has moved on to employment in Ottawa. Ouch. We will miss each of them, and are deeply thankful for what they have brought.
Now, it’s off to take seriously the Biblical command to rest. I will blog with you again in August, and I’m excited already to see what the season ahead at Context will bring.
“But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
